During the reign of Chongzhen (A.D. 1628-1644), land annexation reached unprecedented levels, the nation grappled with internal strife and external invasions, all amidst the devastating effects of the Little Ice Age. Following a series of calamities, the Ming court persisted in enforcing harsh policies, leading to widespread famine and sparking numerous uprisings against the ruling authority. Liang, a bandit, and his companion are hired by a dubious merchant to escort four girls to a wealthy lord in Luoyang. Their journey takes them through Huazhou, Wenxiang, Shanzhou, and ultimately to Luoyang. Initially believing the girls are to be adopted by the lord, Liang soon learns from one of the girls, named “Sui,” that the lord is actually a malevolent swine demon who preys on young women.
Sui seeks Liang’s help in avenging her sister and others who have fallen victim to the demon’s hunger. Despite doubts about Sui’s story, Liang embarks on a quest to uncover the truth and make decisions that will shape his path. As the player assumes the role of Liang, a character with a background in a successful family business turned bandit after losing everything in the Great Tianqi Explosion of 1626, they will navigate a narrative of intrigue, danger, and moral choices.
