Yugo: The Non-Game is a virtual environment designed for users to drive a car, listen to the radio, and engage in conversations with others, creating a shared experience. This platform facilitates extended discussions and social interactions that can be challenging to achieve through traditional digital communication. It represents a non-gamified approach to voice chat sessions typically found in gaming contexts, catering specifically to non-gamers.
In this experience, the player initiating the session assumes the role of the driver, while each participant occupies one of the three passenger seats. Voice chat is automatically enabled for all players. The radio features real-life internet radio streams, with several stations available by default, and users have the option to add or remove stations as desired.
The environment, while abstract and context-free, incorporates elements reflective of a specific time and region. The winding roads are inspired by the mountainous routes connecting Kosovo to Montenegro, and the car is modeled after the Yugo, a notable vehicle produced in Yugoslavia during the 1980s. The time of day evokes the dusks of Kosovo, characterized by the presence of crows returning to their nests at evening. Additionally, the landscape features monolithic structures atop hills, inspired by Socialist-era monuments found in Kosovo and other parts of the former Yugoslavia. These elements not only hold cultural significance for the region but also create a visually striking atmosphere that blurs perceptions of time and place.
